This beautiful Maple Glen, PA home features something unique: a full in-home gym! Our homeowner Curt is very active and enjoys the comforts of working out from home. His gym features all the equipment any one could ever need - cables, benches, dumbbells, and more. The only thing that was missing was an updated heating and cooling system, and ECI was happy to provide it.
Out With the Old, in With the New
After reaching out to ECI Comfort, Joe was able to head out to Curt's home and discuss what his options could be. After listening to Curt explain how much he loved his current system (while it was still working), it was easy for Joe to recommend a new Mitsubishi Hyper Heat Ductless Mini-Split.

With Curt's experience in using ductless heating and cooling, he knew an updated version of the system would be the perfect fit for his gym. With a ductless system, the gym is able to be in its own zone, allowing Curt to heat or cool only that space when he needs to and save on utility costs.
Next, we head out to take a look at Curt's scenario!
Above you can see the old Sanyo heat pump versus the new Mitsubishi one. Not only was this unit older, but it was oversized for the space. We take the extra steps of mounting the unit on risers to keep it above ground, as well as a pad to ensure stability. The older model air handler (indoor unit) was also extremely large, which can be seen in a comparison later.
As discussions continued, Curt described how unfortunate it was that his unit's life had ended. He was temporarily using electric radiator heaters to warm the area, but this often left the equipment cold and the room uncomfortable. With a new ductless system, this would no longer be an issue.
With the size of the room measuring about 400 feet and with a few other factors considered, Joe was able to recommend a 15,000 BTU's unit. For this system, a Hyper Heat heat pump made sense since it would also be the primary heat source. The Hyper Heat heat pump is able to maintain its full efficiency well below 0 degree outdoor temperature.
For the indoor unit, or air handler, Joe recommended the FH model. This model includes Mitsubishi's I-See Sensor, which uses infrared technology to scan the room for hot and cold spots. This allows for better distribution of treated air, making the space even more comfortable. The I-See sensor can also adjust the direction it blows air -- either towards or away from people in the room.
After taking a few days to discuss the project with his wife, Curt decided to move forward and ECI was able to order the equipment and get him on the schedule within a few weeks. With a single-zone ductless project like this, ECI was able to complete the install in one day!
The Install
Mike and Stephen of the ECI Comfort Install Crew arrived early to begin the installation process. The outdoor heat pump was installed and wired while the indoor unit was being setup. After the connections were made and lines were set, the process was finished by mounting the indoor unit. After installation was complete, the crew did their usual cleanup to ensure a spotless and neat finish. The unit was tested to make sure everything worked, then the crew lead explained the system and its parts to the homeowners.
As you can see in the right picture, we uncovered an interesting situation at the beginning of the install. The wall behind the original unit was never finished, leaving Curt with a little dilemma. This ended up working to his favor, as the new unit was now able to be mounted higher on the wall. Curt was having some repairs done to the drywall soon, so having a little more patchwork was not an issue. Look at that size difference in the new unit versus the old!
Again here, take a look at how much smaller a new ductless mini-split is compared to those that came before it. What could possibly beat a sleeker look, less space, and better efficiency?!
