When Danny, the homeowner of a beautiful row home in Fairmount, Philadelphia, noticed his aging HVAC system was on its last breath, he knew he needed to act fast. As summer heatwaves hit the city, his outdated Carrier heat pump finally gave out, leaving his family struggling in the sweltering heat.
Initial Conversations
Danny’s old ducted system had never provided consistent comfort, with temperature differences of up to 20 degrees between floors. In homes like his, traditional ductwork can be inefficient, taking up valuable space and creating airflow issues due to twists and turns. When his system failed, Danny began researching solutions and found ECI Comfort, a trusted name in Mitsubishi Electric Ductless Mini-Split installations.
Danny already had a single-zone Mitsubishi Ductless Mini-Split in his third-floor office, installed by the previous homeowner. Recognizing its efficiency, he contacted us at ECI Comfort to explore how a multi-zone ductless system could provide whole-home comfort. After our initial consultation, we designed a customized solution: a four-zone Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat Ductless Mini-Split system, with the capacity to expand for future needs.
The Installation Process
Hyper-heat pump
We installed a five-zone Hyper-Heat heat pump on a weather-proof pad, elevated with risers for snow protection. This compact, ultra-quiet unit is capable of maintaining comfort even in subzero temperatures, offering year-round efficiency.
Indoor units
Inside, four indoor ductless units were strategically placed in the living room, master bedroom, daughter’s bedroom, and office. Each zone now enjoys individualized temperature control, thanks to Mitsubishi’s advanced technology. For the living room, we chose the FS model, which features triple filtration and a 3D I-See Sensor that scans the room to eliminate hot and cold spots.
Branch box
To enhance system efficiency, we installed a branch box, which centrally manages the refrigerant flow to each indoor unit. This setup ensures optimal performance and energy savings.
Conclusion
ECI went out again a couple weeks later to take a look at the progress. Danny and his family, who had struggled with the oppressive heat, was now enjoying perfectly balanced temperatures throughout their home. Danny couldn’t have been more pleased with the professionalism of our installation team, Stephan and TJ, who worked diligently to ensure a seamless process.
