Back in 2012, these new homeowners purchased a home with an older heating system and no air conditioning. They decided to give the system a makeover with the most efficient possible setup. After many discussions with ECI's specialists, a comfort solution was developed: three Unico High Velocity systems, Aprilaire filter systems, humidifiers, Lennox outdoor condensers, a Lochinvar Knight boiler, and more....!
Unico High Velocity, Mitsubishi Ductless, Aprilaire, and More
First, let's discuss the Unico High Velocity systems. The custom design for our homeowners featured one for each floor, as well as zoning the first floor for ultimate comfort. Accompanying these high velocity systems were Aprilaire 5000 filter systems, humidifiers, and high efficiency Lennox outdoor condensers, which provided a capable yet efficient system for this large, beautiful home.
Unique to Unico systems are slotted outlets which were installed on the porch of the master bedroom, allowing for an outdoor area with treated air. For the heating portion, a high efficiency Lochinvar Knight boiler was installed. This provided multiple high and low temperature hydronic zones.
For a more out-of-the box solution, these homeowners added radiant floors for the kitchen, mudroom, and laundry areas. This provided a heating element to those floors so that even in the coldest weather our homeowners can walk on a nice, warm floor! Additionally, a hydronic towel warming rack was added into the master bedroom...talk about comfort!
Continuing through this epic project, ECI installed an indirect tank that provided an unlimited supply of hot water.
Last but not least, there was a first floor sunporch that would have been impossible to condition if added to the main zones provided from the Unico High Velocity. The solution ECI decided upon for our homeowners was to add a separate Mitsubishi ductless split heat pump to accommodate this area. This provided the homeowners with a solution for cooling and warming the sunroom, without taking drastic measures or ignoring it.
This project was challenging but fun from beginning to end, and it showed that there's a special solution for every homeowner.
