Home Comfort While Working From Home is Important, Huh?
Our neighbors, Joe and Sandy, right around the corner in Langhorne, have spent a few decades in their home -- but this past year was a bit different. Being used to working in the office, their days were never spent at home. At night, their through-the-wall unit in the dining room & bedroom satisfied their comfort needs. However, within the past year (and foreseeable future), their jobs have become home-office based.
The home is split-level, with the upper level containing the kitchen and dining area, two bathrooms, and two bedrooms. The lower level contains a living room, two offices, and a garage. One through-the-wall AC unit is in the dining/kitchen area and the other is located in the master bedroom. With this setup, a majority of the home does not have direct AC, which has been a burden, especially in the offices!
The couple's newfound time spent in the offices has made home comfort become a priority. Their offices not having air conditioning has made working from home unbearable. A fan in the hallway to direct air coming from the second-level dining room was no longer cutting it! Joe and Sandy needed to make a change to their home comfort immediately!
PROBLEM: Our neighborhood homeowners, Joe & Sandy, have spent many years in their home without central AC. After relying on fans and two through-the-wall AC units, they finally gave up. As summers keep getting hotter, a change needed to be made!

Now, let's rewind to what brought our homeowners to this amazing end result. After meeting Joe and Sandy for the first time, we went over a handful of different options to solve their comfort concerns. From a ducted conventional system to mini-splits, to a combination of both, there was plenty of options. After some phone calls and deliberating, they decided that Mitsubishi Ductless Mini-Splits were the right fit for them.
The decision to choose Mitsubishi Ductless Mini-Splits came down to a few factors: zoned control, supplemental heating, and the ability to split it into two separate systems. Our design included one system on the left side of the house with a mini-split in the lower-level living room and upper-level dining/kitchen area. The second system covered the right side of the house, with mini-splits in the two lower-level offices and the two upper-level bedrooms. Splitting this into two separate systems allowed for a cleaner install and more efficient use of their cooling/heating sources.

What is the Install Process Like?
Before the installation process, our comfort specialist, Joe, met our Install Manager, Steve, at the home for our pre-installation walkthrough. This process allows for our homeowners, specialist, and install manager to collectively examine the details of the project. Once a decision on a system is made, the pre-install walkthrough lets us design a game plan for unit locations, timeline, and install process.
In collaboration with Joe and Sandy, we decided on our six indoor unit locations and two outdoor unit locations. These meetings also allow us at ECI to get a second look at a project, giving our expert (Steve) the opportunity to provide suggestions. In this case, for the lower-level living room, Steve felt that a low-wall mount unit would provide much better aesthetics than a high-wall mounted unit. Our homeowners loved this idea and decided to make the small adjustment!
In a span of four days, our install crew of Mike and Tom were able to complete the project. Again, in coordination with the homeowners, we followed a path to allow them to remain working from home during the install. First, we completed the two-zone system on the left side of the house. You can see the high-wall unit in the dining/kitchen area on the left, and the low-wall unit in the living room on the right.:
Once this first system was complete, Mike and Tom moved to the right side of the house. Joe and Sandy asked if we could complete the units in their offices first, which we happily did. Following that, the two upper-level bedrooms were completed, all line sets were run, and all were connections made!
All five indoor units were able to be installed in locations desired by our homeowners in the most functional and aesthetically pleasing way. The modern design of Mitsubishi Ductless Mini-Splits allows them to blend into any room. A great comparison, seen in the bottom-middle image, is an old through-the-wall unit (left side) versus a Mitsubishi Ductless Mini-Split (right side). Look at the minimal difference in size, compared to the MUCH better look and level of comfort! The master bedroom, guest bedroom, and both offices will finally be comfortable throughout the year.
