Our customer, Trevor, initially approached us for a project at another property he owned. During our discussions, it became evident that his log cabin in Riegelsville, Pa. also required attention. From the start, we knew that the property's unique structure made it an ideal candidate for a Mitsubishi Electric Ductless System. Our goal was to enhance comfort and efficiency while maintaining the cabin’s rustic charm.
Located near the Delaware River and surrounded by woods, the Bucks County cabin experienced substantial humidity, which affected indoor comfort. High humidity can lead to mold growth, wood damage, and an uncomfortable living environment, necessitating a system capable of effective dehumidification.
Challenges of installing AC in a log cabin
Although a ductless mini-split system was the optimal decision, it still posed challenges for the installation. The construction of the log cabin's walls made it more difficult to install wall-hung units levelly, requiring precise placement and innovative mounting solutions to ensure both functionality and aesthetics. Finding appropriate pathways to hide the line sets was also crucial to preserve the cabin’s aesthetic appeal. Our aim was to install the system without disrupting the visual integrity of the cabin’s interior and exterior.
Tailored Ductless Installation Solutions
Ductless mini-split in the great room
A 15,000 BTU unit was installed in the living room area, which is the central gathering space in the cabin. To keep the line set out of sight, it was run behind the basement stairs. This creative routing avoided internal visibility, maintaining the room's aesthetic while ensuring efficient cooling.
Ductless mini-splits in the bedrooms
The air handler was installed above a closet door in one bedroom, which avoided interference with the roofline of the second floor. The line set was hidden inside the closet, then routed below the roofline to remain inconspicuous.
The air handler installations in the second and third bedrooms, while more straightforward, required careful consideration to ensure the units were level and the line sets were discreetly routed. This ensured effective cooling without compromising the cabin’s appearance.
