Throwback Thursday: ECI Adds Mitsubishi Electric Ductless to Combat Comfort Issues in One Room

PROBLEM: This Cape Cod-style home built in 1953 had existing ductwork for central air and heat, but certain rooms experienced uneven temperatures resulting in discomfort for our homeowners. Two bedrooms on the second floor already had Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat ductless systems to combat the home's issues, but a third room was experiencing similar issues on the first floor.

SOLUTION: ECI Comfort installed a single-zone Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat ductless system in the front first-floor room. This room did not heat up or cool as well as the rest of the house, so the ductless unit provided the perfect solution to create comfort in the home.

Merion Station uses ECI Comfort to install a Mitsubishi hyper heat pump and single zone mitsubishi unit in uncomfortable bedroom.

A couple years ago, homeowners in Merion Station, Pa. reached out to ECI Comfort with concerns about some of the rooms experiencing hot and cold spots in their new home. Built in 1953, this Cape Cod-style home had existing ductwork for central air and heat. The previous owners installed two Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat ductless systems to combat the home's uneven, uncomfortable temperatures. But our homeowners, Robert and his wife, were still experiencing issues, specifically in the front first-floor room which he planned to turn into a work-from-home office and guest bedroom.

Initial Conversations: What Options Did We Have For One Particular Uncomfortable Room?

The Merion Station home already had two low wall-mounted Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat units installed on the second floor in the bedrooms, which indicated that the previous owners dealt with similar issues. When discussing plans with ECI, Robert emphasized that he needed comfort in this first-floor room because he works from home and was planning on making it his office and a guest bedroom. He was a little worried about the ductwork aspect when it came to someone adding a new system since it was woven through the garage and into a tight crawl space, making it difficult to access.

One of our Comfort Specialists was able to make a plan with the couple to install a single-zone Mitsubishi Hyper-Heat ductless system to fix this issue. The ductwork throughout the cracks of the home was no problem for ECI’s team, as we have immense experience navigating all types of homes and problems in Philadelphia and its surrounding areas. After discussing with his wife for a few days, Robert decided to move forward with the ductless project with ECI. Learn More About Ductless

Five star review left by Merion Station homeowner who got a single zone mitsubishi hyper heat pump put in their home.

Robert was only looking for a solution in the front room of his home that was uncomfortable. Therefore, ECI decided that a single-zone Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat was the best match for his needs! The Hyper-Heat system will be perfect for the winter as well when it drops below freezing.

What is Hyper-Heat and How Does it Differ From a Standard Heat Pump?

Most standard heat pumps become nonfunctional below 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Once it gets below this temperature, it starts to blow cold air into your home in the middle of winter. Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat models, on the other hand, use a technology called H2i to provide up to 100 percent of heating capacity at five degrees and work down to negative thirteen degrees.

If you have another heating system such as a furnace, you can use a standard heat pump as a supplemental heat source to limit the amount of oil or gas you use in a year. But if you live in an area where it drops below 25 degrees, like in and around Philadelphia and Bucks County, you can use a Hyper-Heat heat pump year-round without the help of another system. Hyper-Heat costs more on average to install but saves homeowners money in the long run due to energy efficiency and tax rebates.

Hyper-Heat Versus Standard Heat Pumps

The Install

An outdoor heat pump was installed and wired while the indoor unit was being set up in the front room on the first floor. After mounting the unit onto the wall, ECI Comfort tested the unit to make sure it was working properly. Robert was very satisfied with his new office space/guest bedroom. He was also very excited once he realized how quiet these units are, as they won't disrupt his workday or a guest’s stay.

If you're having any issues with comfort in one particular room in your home, a single-zone Mitsubishi Electric unit is a great solution for you! If you are looking for heating and cooling in multiple rooms, a multi-zone Mitsubishi Electric ductless system is an option that will keep your whole family comfortable and happy.

Single-zone vs. multi-zone ductless systems

Single zones are areas where comfort can be a challenge, such as additions, sunrooms, basements, or a remodeled room above the garage. This could also just be any room in the house needing extra support. These single-zone systems allow you to pinpoint the area of the home that you want to condition instead of using the whole home's HVAC system, increasing your comfort and saving you money.

Multi-zone systems keep all of the rooms at maximum, individualized comfort without all the ductwork. Using a multi-zone system is a great way to choose personal desired temperatures in each room without any bickering between people in your home. This is because each indoor unit comes with its own control so that every room can be set to its own temperature. That also means you don't have to waste energy heating or cooling a room that no one is in.

How Ductless Works

Since the installation, Robert has a comfortable room to work in and offer to guests. The Mitsubishi Electric Hyper-Heat ductless has provided him with the satisfaction he desired for his new space. Both the indoor and outdoor units are "whisper-quiet," which will run without interrupting his work day or a guest's stay.

ECI thanks Robert and his family for choosing to work with ECI Comfort. We were more than happy to take on this project and help provide them with comfort. Check out Robert's awesome review!
