THE PROBLEM: An aging single-stage heat pump had required repairs almost every year over the past several years. The customer wanted to move beyond recurring service issues and invest in more dependable heating and cooling.

THE SOLUTION: Replace the existing equipment with a two-stage heat pump that can operate at a lower capacity during milder conditions and increase output when needed. The upgrade gave the customer a fresh start with equipment designed to better match the home’s changing comfort demands.

THE PROBLEM: An approximately 18-year-old high-velocity HVAC system was ready for replacement. The customer wanted to explore ways to manage heating costs while reducing reliance on the home’s existing natural gas boiler.

THE PROBLEM: The customer’s aging high-velocity air-conditioning system still cooled the second and third floors, but its age raised concerns about an unexpected summer breakdown. The customer wanted to replace it proactively, improve third-floor heating control, and explore ways to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

THE SOLUTION: A new Unico variable-speed air handler paired with a Ruud two-stage heat pump replaced the aging equipment. Two additional high-velocity supply feeds improved air distribution, while replacement steam radiator valves provided better third-floor heating control. Completing the installation during the fall allowed the customer to take advantage of off-season pricing before the next cooling season.

THE PROBLEM: The customer’s nearly 20-year-old oil-heating system needed repairs estimated at almost $6,000. Rather than make a substantial investment in aging equipment, the customer wanted a long-term heating solution that would improve efficiency and simplify managing separate oil and propane deliveries.

THE SOLUTION: A cold-climate, 24 SEER heat pump paired with a Trane propane furnace replaced the aging oil system. The new dual-fuel configuration combines efficient electric heating and cooling with propane backup heat, allowing the home’s heating system, fireplace, and water heater to share one delivered fuel source.

PROBLEM: An older Chestnut Hill home had a 5–10°F temperature difference between the first and second floors. Cooling the upstairs at night meant making the first floor uncomfortably cold, and the home's approximately 80% efficient furnace no longer aligned with his comfort or energy-efficiency goals.

SOLUTION: A two-zone hybrid heating and cooling system paired a fully modulating Ruud RD18 heat pump with a 96% efficient, two-stage variable-speed Ruud furnace. New ductwork and independent controls for each floor gave the home more precise comfort, improved humidity control, quieter operation, and less reliance on fossil-fuel heating.

PROBLEM: Having recently moved into this home with no air conditioning, the homeowners were looking for an affordable way to cool the second floor's two bedrooms/600 square feet with no ductwork.
