Buckingham Stone Farmhouse Upgrades to Runtal Radiators and Unico High Velocity

PROBLEM: Our homeowners in Doylestown were searching for a new heating system that would look nicer than their current cast-iron radiators. With their old home's design and recent renovations, they were looking to stick to heating through radiators.

SOLUTION: ECI Comfort installed a heat pump and Runtal Radiators on the second and third floors of the home and in their enclosed porch to provide year-round heat and comfort while maintaining each room's aesthetic.

Runtal radiator upgrade for stone farmhouse in Buckingham, PA

Our homeowner Gaelan lives in a stone farmhouse up in Buckingham, Pa. After recently renovating his home, he was searching for a new heating system to keep him and his wife warm during the winter months and also save more energy than his old and unpleasant-looking cast-iron radiators. After some research, they were interested in Runtal Radiators' modernized design and high efficiency. Runtal radiators are designed with functionality to deliver heat faster while using less water to save energy.

Initial Call

When Gaelan reached out to ECI for an estimate, he did not have a cooling system and his existing heating system was a boiler with radiators. We discussed how a Unico High Velocity system was a great option for his cooling needs because it is designed to fit homes without compromising the design or architecture. For heating, installing Runtal Radiators was a decision based on efficiency, size, and style to allow our homeowners to have a touch of personalization in their home without compromising any space. Why Unico High Velocity is Ideal for Older Homes

Runtal Radiators are modernized, efficient, and sleek. Their design allows for little to no maintenance, rarely needing cleaning. Runtal radiators are highly efficient, offering clean and green energy in your home by eliminating the need for combustible fuel. This reliable heat is offered in three different types of systems: hydronic, electric, and steam. The goal of Runtal Radiators is to combine design with functionality by offering homeowners unlimited options and styles to get the most from the space in their homes.

Three Types of Runtal Radiators

Hydronic (hot water)

A hydronic system uses a series of pipes to distribute water to different portions of the home and deliver comforting heat efficiently. They operate on a “closed-loop” which means the same water is constantly being recirculated and heated again (very efficient!) These units run very quietly with no crackling noises that cast-iron radiators usually produce.

Electric

The electric option is built the same way as the hydronic model and also comes in different voltages. This model offers clean electric heat solutions in wall panels, towel radiators, or baseboards to personalize your home heating system.

Steam

Steam radiators come in one and two-pipe systems. Steam radiators utilize a boiler to turn water into steam, which is then circulated through pipes to heat the home. When the steam cools, it condenses back to water and returns to the boiler to be circulated.

The Install

ECI Comfort installed Runtal Radiators on the second and third floors of Gaelan's home and in their enclosed porch on the first floor for supplemental heat. We also installed a heat pump for these new systems. The video below shows one of our technicians, Dan, demonstrating our Runtal Radiator installation in Gaelan's home.

As you can see, these Runtal Radiators are contemporary, offering a clean and compact design against the bottom of the homeowner's wall. These radiators come in a variety of colors to match walls or complement wall decor. Above the radiators, you will notice (unfinished) circular holes in the walls. In our initial call, Gaelan discussed that he does not have an AC system and was curious about the options that complement his home's original structure. After some discussion, ECI and Gaelan agreed that a Unico high velocity system was the best option for him. When high velocity vents are finished, they are also sleek, small, and blend in easily with any space. Check out an example below:

On their enclosed porch, our homeowners decided to install Runtal Radiators for supplemental heat when they want to sit outside on chillier days. Their dog also enjoys this porch so it was a no-brainer for them to decide on adding this additional system.

Final Thoughts

Gaelan and his wife are head over heels for their Runtal Radiators and Unico High Velocity system. Their biggest shock was the fact that Runtal Radiators heated up their home so fast without a single sound. They also enjoy that they do not have to plan ahead for heat in their home anymore. Now, they can sit comfortably and change the temperature from their smartphone from virtually anywhere.

Are you considering upgrading your old cast-iron radiators and baseboards for something that is both reliable and stylish? Check out this quick comparison of both types of heating systems below.

Runtal Radiators are a more expensive option, but over the long term are worth every dollar. These systems are built to hold up better and maintain their efficiency while being a stylish addition to homes. Runtal Radiators are customizable to any size to fit multiple spaces, and a variety of colors offers the touch of personalization homeowners seek while searching for comfort in their homes. These radiators require less maintenance, eliminating the need to be cleaned as much as fin-tube radiators. Providing better heat by offering both radiant and convection, it can be fitted to any current system.
