Our homeowner, David lives in a beautiful stone farmhouse that was built in the 17th century. After countless summers of discomfort, he was interested in a better comfort option for his older home. David started his search with low hopes, believing that no one would be able to help him because of the home's age and design. After scrolling through Google, ECI Comfort appeared. He was impressed with the amount of older stone homes we have worked on in the past while searching through our project gallery. So after reaching out to ECI, one of our Comfort Specialists headed out for a free consultation.
Initial Conversations
Our homeowner informed us that he had no AC system and relied on cast iron radiators. He was utilizing window AC units during the warmer months, but they never provided 100% comfort for his family. David was searching for an option to kick his window units to the curb for good. He has gone through several window units and had enough. David was confident with ECI Comfort and felt like his concerns were met about his stone farmhouse and its layout.
We were able to work together and carefully design the layout of his new system to ensure that we were on the same page and that the structure of his home came first. After his consultation, he decided to go with a Mitsubishi Electric ductless heat pump system. The benefits of his decision include minimal construction to his beautiful and historic home and added zoned control to maximize comfort in all rooms. As a bonus, Mitsubishi Electric mini-splits offer comfort in all seasons.
The Install
This Cheltenham, Pa. home was constructed in the 1700s out of stone and was built in three parts. The homeowner wanted options that would be efficient but not take away from the home's aesthetic. Thankfully for him, this is exactly what ductless mini-splits are made for! They are compatible with all kinds of homes, especially older ones such as David's. These units can be mounted on the wall, floor, or ceiling and don't require invasive ductwork. Our install technicians were able to go over their carefully designed plan for David’s mini-splits again and explain the installation process before they started.
Due to the layout of David's home, locating space was a huge focus our crew narrowed in on. To not disturb the functionality of the living room and keep the unit “hidden”, our technicians installed a KJ model floor-mounted unit. This unit comes with H2i Hyper-Heat technology that is ideal for colder climates. This feature is great for David's home because he has had trouble making all rooms comfortable in the past during the winter with the radiators alone.
In the master bedroom/office as well as the two guest bedrooms, we installed three GL model high-wall air handlers. This model has the lowest volume levels in the industry. These whisper-quiet units produce less noise than ruffling leaves in the wind. The GL model also comes in a wide range of designs and sizes so it can be personalized to fit any home. We were also able to find a great spot to install our homeowner's new outdoor heat pump (right) that was tucked away.
Final Thoughts
In just four days, our crew was able to professionally and efficiently install David's new Mitsubishi Electric Multi-Zone Ductless Heating and Cooling system while maintaining a clean workspace. Our homeowner and his family now have comfort in all seasons with their brand-new ductless system, and they were able to say goodbye to their window air conditioning units forever.
