Initial Conversations
One of our technicians referred his friend Jason to ECI when he heard that he was looking to upgrade his window AC units. His first floor consisted of one window unit that was built into the wall, but they always thought this took away from the aesthetics of the space. Each bedroom and the upstairs office also had window units to cool their home in the summertime. Talking with ECI, Jason had stressed concerns with cooling the second floor of his Levittown home, a common issue with homes in the area deal because of how they were built. While gathering quotes from HVAC companies around the area, Jason found that they all suggested ductwork for him which can be tough to install in Levittown homes.
After chatting with ECI, Jason agreed to a ductless system, something that no other team in the area could offer him. Mitsubishi Electric's ductless systems have zoning ability that can reach cool air to the second floor and also add heat (as the outdoor unit is a heat pump). This was a huge selling point for him knowing he will start saving money by cutting back his oil usage.
Why we decided against ductwork
Ductwork would be more invasive, costly, and time-consuming to install. Levittown homes are known for their unbalanced temperatures from room to room, but it's impossible to achieve even temperatures throughout the home with window units. To combat this issue, you can install ductless mini-splits on the indoor walls of your home to provide cooled or heated refrigerant where you need it in your living space. The refrigerant lines connect these indoor air handlers to the outdoor unit that cools or warms the refrigerant and sends it back inside to the air handler which continuously monitors the room for temperature changes to provide constant comfort. The Install
A four-zone outdoor unit was installed paired with three indoor units. The outdoor unit model we installed is the Mitsubishi Electric MXZ Heat Pump.
Mitsubishi Electric MXZ Heat Pump
This Mitsubishi Electric multi-zone heat pump is an extremely efficient cooling and heating option that can handle four zones. It has a SEER rating of 19 and an HSPF rating of 10.6. This outdoor condenser is equipped with inverter technology and an electronic linear expansion valve. These components improve temperature accuracy and system efficiency through precise adjustments of both compressor speed and refrigerant flow.
The Mitsubishi MXZ SM*TAM heat pump is the newer version of this heat pump installed. It has an improved efficiency rating and can handle two to five zones. Its new feature includes H2i technology that will provide heating in outdoor conditions as low as -13° Fahrenheit. This is ideal for homes in areas that reach super low temperatures.
Mitsubishi Wall-Mounted GL Model
In both the family room and master bedroom, a wall-mounted MSZ GL Model was installed to contribute desired temperatures across the first floor. These units will deliver comfortable heating and cooling across the first floor which includes the kitchen, family room, living room, dining room, and master bedroom.
The GL model has the lowest noise levels in the industry at 19 decibels. It comes in six compact designs and a wide range of sizes to make rooms of nearly any size comfortable and personalized. There is also an option for a cooling-only unit. This air handler makes adjusting your rooms simple and easy to personalize to your temperature preferences. It has a SEER rating up to 24.6 and an HSPF rating up to 12.8.
Mitsubishi floor-mounted MFZ Model
In the office on our homeowner's second floor, a floor-mounted MFZ model was installed to provide desired temperatures for the floor. This design is perfect for difficult areas that may be smaller or have usable space on the walls.
This model has a SEER rating up to 28.2 and HSPF rating up to 13.0. Floor-mounted units mount on the floor or up to 5 inches above the floor. This model features a powerful mode when kicked into high gear that will shut off automatically after a while to preserve efficiency. This system allows for heating and cooling of an entire room with its flat, stylish look. Its multi-vane air functions to push air in an upward and downward direction.
Jason and his wife's new and efficient system has helped them cut down their oil usage in the mild months of winter while also having better control in the summer months with the ability to control both the upstairs and downstairs heating and cooling and personalize their desired temperatures. They also have the option to add the fourth zone later down the road if they'd like.
