What to Expect From Your Free Generator Estimate

Most of us have experienced at least one power outage in our lives; if you haven't, consider yourself lucky! Power outages could last for just minutes, but could also last for days or weeks on end. So, why take the risk? If you want to be prepared for the next outage and ensure safety and comfort, schedule a free in-home estimate as soon as possible.

However, if you want a permanent generator for your home that's ready to automatically turn on in times of need, you should look into a Generac standby generator. If you're considering a standby generator for your home, you'll want to contact a licensed professional for a free estimate to determine which generator is right for you.

It's also important to note: demand for generators has been extremely high as of late due to record-setting weather-related power outages. If you are interested in a generator for your home, it's best to start the process ASAP so that your products can be ordered and installed sooner than later.

ECI Comfort has been working with Generac to install and maintain their generators for over 30 years. Our goal is to provide customers with maximum home comfort by giving them the best in safety and reliability when it comes to generators. As an authorized Generac dealer, we're experts in helping you select the right backup generator for your home, ensuring you never suffer through a power outage again.

Preparing For Your Estimate

So, you've made the (smart!) decision to schedule an in-home consultation. Now you might be wondering what this estimate will consist of and how to prepare. Here's a list of tips from our ECI Comfort team and Generac:

First, make sure both decision makers are present as this can be a big purchase and getting all the information is important. You should explain exactly why you want a generator to the specialist, so that he or she can understand your specific needs.

Next, have a list of appliances and electrical loads you’d like to back up. You will go over this in detail with the specialist, but it's best to have an idea in mind beforehand. Once you determine the most important electrical loads (or if you want the whole house powered), use our Wattage Worksheet or Generac's online sizing calculator to help you get an idea of the right size generator.

You should also think about where outside you'd like the generator to go. It will of course have to comply with HOA and community restrictions as well as follow safety guidelines. How Does a Backup Generator Work? & Other FAQ's
The specialist will assess your electrical needs and walk around the home with you to discuss which electrical loads you'd like backed up, your budget, and the best location for the generator and transfer switch. That's why it's smart to at least somewhat think about these things ahead of time so that your assessment can be as efficient as possible. Having both decision makers present is also helpful when going over budget. During this step is when you can go over local permitting requirements with the specialist as well.

The specialist will then calculate the total load to determine what size generator is needed. You can receive more than one option so that you have choices differing in price and other factors. He or she will also outline the installation process, what steps to take to move forward with choosing an option, and available maintenance plans.

And that's it! You'll be armed with everything you need to make an informed decision on preparing for the next blackout. The estimate should only take about an hour or so -- just a small part of your day to prevent multiple days without power.
