6 Reasons Why HVAC is a Great Career for Grads

HVAC is a great career for grads

Woo-hoo! School is finally out for the summer. Congratulations to all of the new graduates! But, have you thought about what you're going to do next?

If you're looking for a job where you can work with your hands, has great hands-on training, learn new skills every day, a job that has opportunities for advancement, and you're looking to earn great money, then a career in the HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) field could be your calling.

Check out these top six reasons why a career in HVAC is the best job for new graduates:

1. HVAC has a very bright future. According to the Bureau Labor of Statistics, the HVAC field is expected to grow 21% from 2012-2022, which is faster than average for all occupations. A growing industry means more job opportunities! If you really think about it, there is always going to be a need for HVAC technicians because people will always be needing their climate-control systems cleaned, replaced, or even upgraded.

2. Always opportunities for advancement. This professional path promises job security and excellent opportunities for growth. You could advance from a service technican to an installer, to a field manager, to an operation manager, or even to a distribution manager.

3. Hands-on-training. Hands-on training is one of the best ways to learn in this industry.  It allows you to learn, grow, and improve your skills by allowing you to practice in the field on a daily basis. Whether it's repairing an A/C unit or replacing an old system, it will help you learn what you need to know about how to properly get the job done.

4. Your hard-work will pay off.  Before you get started in this field, you will need the proper training and education from either a technical/trade school or through an apprenticeship. There are also certain certifications you must earn before you go on the job, but all of your hard-work will pay off. In this field, the higher qualified you are and the more work experience you have, the more valuable you are. You could earn more privileges and have more opportunities (it will also help you financially)!

5. Great salary and benefits. The median annual wage for an HVAC technician as of May 2012, averages around $43,640, with the top 10% of the industry earning more than $68,990. However, there is always potential to earn more, whether it's by having additional responsibility or putting in overtime, you will always be compensated for the extra work and time you put in.

6. Customer-service experience.  HVAC technicans often work in customer's homes or at business locations on a daily basis, so if you're a "people person", this is a great way to work on those customer service skills. You get to establish new relationships with new customers every day!

If you aren't afraid of hard-work or commitment and advancement opportunities are important to you, then this may be the job for you. There will always be job opportunties in the HVAC field because this industry will be here for years to come.
