Some would say that there is no such thing.
Old City Philadelphia is famous for its Row Homes. And, older row homes are equally famous for being uncomfortable in our humid summers because so many row homes don't have a central heating and cooling system, leaving folks to rely on window units to try to stay comfortable in the heat. This row home, built in the 1920's in Old City has a gas-fired water boiler and cast iron radiators for heat, but no central air at all. This means relying on bulky window air conditioners that are a pain to install and take down seasonally, and actually block up your windows for a good part of the year as well! On top of that, window units are not very efficient and expensive to run, and our homeowner was looking for a better solution for his new home.
The homeowner recently moved into this older home on Fillmore Street in Bristol, PA - Bucks County. The venerable home has oil heat and and lacks the ductwork, and the space needed for the ductwork, of a traditional air conditioning system. The customer was looking for the most economical, and least intrusive way, to cool the rooms on the second floor.

What does ductless heating and air conditioning cost around Philadelphia? Here in the Greater Philadelphia area, ductless heating and cooling in a single zone configuration, fully installed and ready to turn on starts at $3500, and the price goes up from there depending on a number of factors.
What is Hyper Heat?
Hyper Heat is a new home heating system designed by Mitsubishi. It’s the perfect home comfort solution for a range of homes and sizes, and has the advantage of being both a heating and air conditioning system that doesn’t rely on ductwork, making it a perfect option for older and historic homes that have relied on oil or radiator heat in the winter, and perhaps window air conditioners for summer months.
If you're looking for a quiet, super-efficient heating and air conditioning solution for your home that can drastically reduce your energy costs and quickly pay for itself, you'll definitely want to consider a Mitsubishi ductless mini-split system. Ductless is a flexible and energy saving alternative to conventional air conditioning systems, window units and oil heat. But, what can a homeowner expect to pay for this modern and convenient comfort system?
A thumbs up is exactly how we feel here at ECI Comfort about the new Mitsubishi ductless heating and cooling system. Whether you're in the market for a whole new system or you just want to make your home more comfortable during the hot and humid weather that lies ahead, here are 5 reasons why you should choose to go ductless this summer:
Way back in 2013, ECI Comfort set up two tents at the Levittown Car Show and Family Fun Day as part of our Comfort Challenge. The tent on the left was cooled by a typical window unit air conditioner. Next to it, the tent on the right was cooled by a Mitsubishi ductless wall unit. Guess which one attendees liked most!
If you were to walk by this charming Bristol Borough home, it might not be immediately apparent that inside, a popular salon has been thriving for almost sixty years.
Recently, ECI Comfort installed a Mitsubishi ductless split heating and air conditioning unit in the home. While we were there I got to get to know the home/salon owner, Harry Moyer, and even got a haircut while I was at it.
I’ve seen a lot of advertising the last couple of weeks for Father’s day gift Ideas. While the homemade gin still kit and the Star Wars lightsaber chopsticks have peeked my interest, I was thinking of something on a grander scale. Something that I really want although, sadly, I do not have the budget for - my own personal “man cave”.
